An Ideal itinerary for those who want to know Italian Christmas traditions. We will visit medieval villages, the birthplace of St. Francis who created the first nativity scene, and the Eternal City, where the Pope resides. We’ll take time to visit the stores and outlets in central Italy to find those perfect, unique Christmas gifts.

Day 1: Rome

  • Arrive in Rome, private transportation to the hotel.
  • Guests will stay overnight in Rome.

Day 2: Rome

  • Breakfast will be served at the hotel.
  • Guests will take a private walking tour through the historic center, where they’ll view important sites such as the Pantheon, the Spanish Steps, Piazza Navona, the Roman Forum and the Roman Coliseum.
  • Guests will stay overnight in Rome.

Day 3: Vatican State

  • Breakfast will be served at the hotel.
  • Guests will visit the Vatican Museums, the Sistine Chapel–renowned for its frescoed walls and ceilings, the majestic St. Peter’s Basilica and St. Peter’s Square.
  • In the afternoon, guests will have free time to explore Rome on their own, or to relax.
  • Guests will stay overnight in Rome.

Day 4: Orvieto–Todi–Perugia

  • Breakfast will be served at the hotel in Rome.
  • Guests will be driven to the hilltop towns of Orvieto and Todi.
  • Perched on a flat rock cliff, Orvieto offers beautiful views of the countryside. In town, guests will visit the 14th century Orvieto Cathedral, and the 16th century St. Patrick’s Well. The tour will continue on to Todi, a jewel in the heart of Italy, with a medieval atmosphere.
  • After the tour, guests will be driven to Perugia, where they will stay overnight.

Day 5: Assisi–Spoleto

  • Breakfast will be served at the hotel in Perugia.
  • The tour begins in Assisi, the serene and mystical birthplace of St. Francis and St. Clare, and includes visiting the historic center and the Basilica of St. Francis. The tour will continue on to Spoleto, an important Roman colony located at the foot of the Appenines, and includes a visit to its ancient castle.
  • Guests will be driven back to Perugia, where they will stay overnight.

Day 6: Città di Castello–Gubbio

  • Breakfast will be served at the hotel.
  • The tour starts with Città di Castello, a fascinating Umbrian village of Etruscan and Roman origin.
  • Guests will then visit the medieval village of Gubbio. Here, they’ll witness “the tallest Christmas tree in the world,” a two-thousand toot high light installation in the shape of a Christmas tree that illuminates a side of Mount Ingino.
  • After the tour, guests will return to Perugia, where they will stay overnight.

Day 7: Montepulciano–Pienza–Colle Val d’Elsa

  • Breakfast will be served at the hotel in Perugia.
  • Today’s tour heads to Tuscany. We’ll stop at fashionable outlet shops along the way, then travel through the Val D’Orcia, visiting the town of Montepulciano, famous for its wine production, and then on to Pienza.
  • Guests will stay overnight in Colle Val d’Elsa.

Day 8: Siena–San Gimignano

  • Breakfast will be served at the hotel in Colle Val d’Elsa.
  • The day will be dedicated to one of the most beautiful and best preserved cities in the world, Siena, famous for the Palio, a horse race dating back to medieval times. The tour will continue on to the town of San Gimignano, a beautiful medieval town, famous for its towers.
  • Guests will return to Colle Val d’Elsa where they will stay overnight.

Day 9: Florence

  • Breakfast will be served at the hotel in Colle Val d’Elsa.
  • In the morning, we’ll travel to Florence. Guests will enjoy a walking tour of this elegant city situated on the Arno river. They’ll visit the historic center, walk along the Ponte Vecchio, and explore the Piazza della Signoria and the Piazza del Duomo where the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore is located. The tour will end with a visit to the Gallery of the Academy of Florence, the home of Michelangelo’s sculptural masterpiece, David.
  • Guests will stay overnight in Florence.

Day 10: Pisa–Lucca

  • Breakfast will be served at the hotel in Florence.
  • In the morning, we head north to visit Pisa, famous for its wonderful Campo dei Miracoli with its Leaning Tower, then on to Lucca, a beautiful city surrounded by its original walls which are now used as a promenade. With limited traffic inside its walls, the city is enjoyed by both pedestrians and those who love touring by bike.
  • We return to Florence where guests will stay overnight.

Day 11: Florence

  • Breakfast will be served at the hotel.
  • Bus transfer for the group from the hotel to the airport.
