Polignano a Mare - Puglia

A trip dedicated to the splendors of southern Italy. Travelers will discover cities and towns from the Amalfi Coast to the “heel” of Italy. Starting in the region of Campania, we’ll visit Naples and then drive along the Amalfi Coast visiting Positano and Sorrento. We’ll continue to the region of Apulia, the “heel” of Italy with its breathtaking villages of Ostuni and Alberobello, the port town of Monopoli, and Lecce, a splendid city of baroque architecture and art.

Day 1: Naples

  • Guests arrive at Naples airport; private transportation to hotel.
  • Guests stay overnight in Naples.

Day 2: Naples–Sorrento

  • Breakfast will be served at the hotel.
  • We’ll begin the tour visiting the bustling center of Naples, then visit the ancient city of Pompeii that was buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 CE.
  • Arrival in Sorrento. Guests will have free time to explore the city on their own.
  • Overnight stay in Sorrento.

Day 3: Amalfi Coast

  • Breakfast will be served at the hotel in Sorrento.
  • Our excursion along the Amalfi Coast stops in the towns of Positano, famous for its beaches and colorful buildings; Amalfi with its beautiful cathedral, and Ravello with its beautiful villas overlooking the Mediterranean.
  • After our tour, guests will return to Sorrento, and stay overnight.

Day 4: Matera–Lecce

  • Breakfast will be served at the hotel in Sorrento.
  • Guests will travel to the region of Apulia on the east coast of Italy. On our way to Lecce a city of baroque architectural tradition, and known as “the Florence of the South,” we will stop at Matera, a UNESCO Heritage City, famous for its Sassi, ancient houses dug out of the rock. After our visit we will continue to Lecce.
  • Guests will stay overnight in Lecce.

Day 5: Lecce

  • Breakfast at the hotel in Lecce.
  • In the morning, guests will tour the historic center of Lecce visiting the cathedral, the Seminary Palace–considered the finest example of baroque architecture in Lecce, and the Bishop’s Palace, the residence of the archbishop of Lecce.
  • In the afternoon, guests will have free time to relax or explore Lecce on their own.
  • Guests will stay overnight in Lecce.

Day 6: Gallipoli–Otranto

  • Breakfast will be served at the hotel in Lecce.
  • Guests will travel to beautiful Gallipoli, a city of Greek origin, overlooking the Gulf of Taranto. The tour continues with a visit to Otranto, a coastal town with a layered history and mixture of Roman, Norman, Greek and Spanish cultures.
  • Guests return to Lecce and will stay overnight.

Day 7: Valle d’Itria (Itria Valley)

  • Breakfast will be served at the hotel in Lecce.
  • The tour heads north to the white washed villages of Ostuni, “The White City,” and the UNESCO World Heritage City of Alberobello, renowned for its regionally distinctive structures called Trullis, which are small dwellings made of limestone with a conical shaped roof. The tour will continue in Locorotondo, a pretty little town with outstanding views.
  • Guests will stay overnight in Polignano a Mare.

Day 8: Polignano a Mare–Monopoli

  • Breakfast will be served at the hotel in Polignano a Mare.
  • The day will be dedicated to touring the coastal cities of the Adriatic Sea: Monopoli and Polignano a Mare.
  • Guests will stay overnight in Polignano a Mare.

Day 9: Bari

  • Breakfast will be served at the hotel in Polignano a Mare.
  • Guests will be driven to the Bari airport.
