My First Time in Italy

Our ten-day excursion is ideal for those who are visiting Italy for the first time. Over the course of the trip, travelers will be introduced to the magnificent cities and splendid hill towns of Tuscany and the magical city of Venice. From ancient Rome to medieval Lucca, from Renaissance Florence to the vineyards of today’s Chianti, guests will experience the multi-layered history and culture of this richly historic and vibrant country.

Day 1: Rome

  • Arrive in Rome, private transportation to the hotel.
  • Guests will stay overnight in Rome.

Day 2: The Squares and Fountains of Rome

  • Breakfast will be served at the hotel.
  • In the morning, guests will enjoy a walking tour of the historic center to visit Rome’s renowned squares and  fountains including the Spanish Square (Piazza di Spagna), the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, and Navona Square (Piazza di Navona), among other sites.
  • In the afternoon, guests will have free time to explore Rome on their own.
  • Guests will stay overnight in Rome.

Day 3: Basilica of St. Peter and Ancient Rome

  • Breakfast will be served at the hotel.
  • Private tour of the monumental St. Peter’s Basilica and St. Peter’s Square; afterwards, guests will visit the Colosseum (interior), in addition to other ancient Roman sites, such as the Circus Maximus, the Baths of Caracalla, and the Pyramid of Cestia.
  • Guests will stay overnight in Rome.

Day 4: Florence

  • Breakfast will be served at the hotel.
  • Departure by train to Florence.
  • In the afternoon, guests will take a walking tour of the historical center of Florence including the Ponte Vecchio, the  Piazza della Signoria, and the Piazza del Duomo. The tour continues with the interior of the Cattedrale di Santa Maria dei Fiore, and end with viewing Michelangelo’s masterpiece, David, at the Academia Gallery Museum.
  • Guests will stay overnight in Florence.

Day 5: Pisa and Lucca

  • Breakfast will be served at the hotel in Florence.
  • In the morning, guests will visit Pisa where they’ll visit the famous square, Campo dei Miracoli, featuring the  Leaning Tower, the Baptistery and Duomo (Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta) built in the distinctive Pisan style.  Guests will then venture on to nearby Lucca, a medieval walled city, where they will tour the sites by foot and then  by bike.
  • In the afternoon, guests will return to Florence.
  • Guests will stay overnight in Florence.

Day 6: San Gimignano, Monteriggioni and the Chianti Zone

  • Breakfast will be served at the hotel in Florence.
  • Guests will experience the lush landscape of the Tuscan countryside, visiting San Gimignano, famous for its  medieval towers, followed by a visit to the famed wine region of Chianti, where guests will enjoy a wine tasting at a  vineyard estate. Afterwards, guests will visit the beautiful walled town of Monteriggioni.
  • Guests will stay overnight in the Chianti area.

Day 7: Siena and Val d’Orcia

  • Breakfast will be served at the hotel in the Chianti area.
  • Guests will visit Siena, known for its fan-shaped piazza, medieval towers, artisan shops and palaces; the picturesque  village of Pienza, founded by Pope Pius II who created this “ideal city of the Renaissance,” as well as the  famed wine town of Montepulciano. Tastings of local products included.
  • Guests will stay overnight in the Chianti area.

Day 8: Venice

  • Breakfast will be served at the hotel in the Chianti area.
  • Guests will be driven to the Florence train station and travel by train to Venice. Upon arrival, an assistant will  coordinate transportation to the hotel.
  • In the afternoon, guests will take a private tour of the important sites in the city.
  • Guests will stay overnight in Venice.

Day 9: Venice

  • Breakfast will be served at the hotel.
  • Guests will have a free day to enjoy Venice on their own, or they can choose to take a private boat ride on the Grand  Canal.
  • Guests will stay overnight in Venice.

Day 10: Venice

  • Breakfast will be served at the hotel.
  • Private boat ride to the Venice airport.
  • Guests will stay overnight in Venice.
