Tuscan and Umbrian Landscapes and Wines of the Italian Countryside

This is an ideal itinerary for the followers of Bacco, the Roman god of wine!

The tour takes place in three important wine areas in the regions of Lazio, Umbria and Tuscany. Ancient towns such as Orvieto, Montepulciano, Volterra, Siena, Cortona, Frascati and Castel Gandolfo will be visited.

Day 1: Rome

  • Arrive at the Rome airport. Guests will have private transportation to the hotel.
  • Guests will take a walking tour of the center of Rome visiting the main squares and fountains.
  • Guests will stay overnight in Rome.

Day 2: Val D’Orcia (Orcia Valley)

  • Breakfast will be served at the hotel in Rome.
  • The tour will begin in Tuscany, with a visit to Val D’Orcia and the medieval towns of Montepulciano and Pienza. Wine tasting included.
  • Guests will stay overnight in the Chianti area.

Day 3: Siena–Monteriggioni

  • Breakfast will be served at the hotel.
  • Guests will visit one of the best preserved medieval cities, Siena, an artistic city with charming streets and neighborhoods, palaces, historic towers and artisan shops. The tour will continue in nearby Monteriggioni with its intact medieval walled castle.
  • Guests will stay overnight in the Chianti area.

Day 4: Volterra–San Gimignano

  • Breakfast will be served at the hotel in the Chianti area.
  • The trip will begin with a visit to the town of Volterra, a city that traces its roots back to Etruscan and Roman beginnings, and then continues in the city of towers, the beautiful San Gimignano.
  • Guests will return to their hotel in the afternoon, and will stay overnight in the Chianti area.

Day 5: Cortona–Perugia

  • Breakfast will be served at the hotel in the Chianti area.
  • The tour will begin with a visit to the city of Cortona, the town that inspired the
    book and movie, Under the Tuscan Sun. Then, we visit Perugia, the capital of Umbria, a city that seamlessly mixes the ancient with the modern.
  • Guests will stay overnight in the Perugia area.

Day 6: Assisi–Todi

  • Breakfast will be served at the hotel in the Perugia area.
  • Guests will tour Assisi, the birthplace of Saint Francis and Saint Clare. Assisi holds a wealth of treasures including Roman ruins, frescos and paintings, basilicas and tombs. Afterwards, for a change of pace, we will visit a vineyard for a wine tasting, and finish with a visit to the picturesque town of Todi.
  • Guests will stay overnight in the Perugia area.

Day 7: Spoleto–Norcia

  • Breakfast will be served at the hotel in the Perugia area.
  • We will visit Spoleto, a town of cultural and commercial importance since the Bronze Age.
  • We will continue on to Norcia, headquarters of the Benedictine community and its culinary delicacies of truffles and mushrooms. Guests will return to the hotel in the afternoon.
  • Guests will stay overnight the Perugia area.

Day 8: Orvieto

  • Breakfast will be served at the hotel in the Perugia area.
  • Guests will travel towards Rome, stopping in the pretty city of Orvieto along the way. Perched on a flat rock cliff, Orvieto offers beautiful views of the countryside. In town, guests will visit the 14th century Orvieto Cathedral, and the 16th century St. Patrick’s Well.
  • Guests will stay overnight in Frascati (Rome).

Day 9: Frascati

  • Breakfast will be served at the hotel in Rome.
  • First stop on our tour is the city of Tivoli, the home of Hadrian’s Villa and Villa Este. We will visit Frascati, the city famous for its white wine. Time will be available to explore the city on one’s own.
  • Guests will stay overnight in Frascati (Rome).

Day 10: Roman Castles

  • Breakfast will be served at the hotel in Rome.
  • Guests will visit the town of Marino, home to the white wine of the same name; Castel Gandolfo (the Pope’s summer residence is located here) and Lake Albano.
  • Lunch will be enjoyed in a typical restaurant in Nemi, a small village set along Lake Nemi, a small circular volcanic lake often referred to as Diana’s Mirror, for the goddess of the hunt.
  • Return to Frascati and farewell dinner.
  • Guest will stay overnight in Frascati (Rome).

Day 11: Rome

  • Breakfast will be served at the hotel.
  • Private transportation to Fiumicino airport.
